Mark Harmon Enlists for Navy SEAL TV Series
Mark Harmon will develop a Navy SEAL-themed television series for CBS, the network that airs his NCIS. The new show, to be executive produced by Harmon, is based on the nonfiction bestseller The Red Circle: My Life in the Navy SEAL Sniper Corps and How I Trained America’s Deadliest Marksmen, by Brandon Webb and John David Mann.
The inspiration for the story comes from Webb’s experience serving with SEAL Team 3, the Naval Special Warfare Group One Training Detachment sniper cell. Webb completed his last tour at the Naval Special Warfare Center Sniper Course, where he held the position of West Coast sniper course manager.
This series will be told from the intriguing perspective of an experienced but newly promoted Navy SEAL, who has recently joined a troubled platoon. He faces the challenges of trying to accomplish difficult and dangerous tasks while maintaining his values, principles and integrity.
Set to write the script is Todd Robinson, whose writing credits include an interesting mix of films and television projects, from the John Travolta crime feature Lonely Hearts to the TV series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
If the upcoming series sounds familiar, it’s probably because other networks have lately been announcing similar shows. The enormous success of the Bradley Cooper movie American Sniper apparently sparked a trend in TV programming: NBC gave the go-ahead to a drama based on the memoir of former U.S. Army sniper Nicholas Irving; and USA Network ordered a pilot for a TV adaptation of the Mark Wahlberg film Shooter, which will star Ryan Phillippe.
