Matthew McConaughey Film ‘Gold’ Adds Bryce Dallas Howard
Jurassic World actress Bryce Dallas Howard has been cast as the female lead in the Matthew McConaughey mining drama Gold, which is currently in production. The Oscar award-winning McConaughey stars as modern-day prospector, hustler and dreamer Kenny Wells, who, out of desperation, joins forces with a down-on-his-luck geologist to search for gold deep in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia.
Howard plays the role of Kay, a loyal and supportive friend of Wells. Their longstanding friendship is put to the test amid this ambitious gold-hunting expedition, pushing their relationship to the breaking point.
The cast also features Corey Stoll (This is Where I Leave You), Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Rachael Taylor (Jessica Jones), Edgar Ramirez (Zero Dark Thirty) and veteran actor Stacy Keach, recently seen in If I Stay.
Based on the 1993 Bre-X Mineral Corp. mining scandal, the screenplay was written by The Blacklist collaborators Patrick Massett and John Zinman, who are also producing the project alongside McConaughey and Teddy Schwarzman (The Imitation Game). The film was directed by Oscar Award-winning filmmaker Stephen Gaghan, best known for the dramas Syriana and Traffic.
Over the past few years, Howard has appeared in several high-profile films, including The Twilight Saga and The Help, but her starring role in Jurassic World seems to have served as her launching pad for success. The daughter of actor/filmmaker Ron Howard, she is working on a number of prominent films, including the Disney feature Pete’s Dragon.
Filming on Gold is expected to wrap in October, and the movie is slated to premiere next year.
