Melissa McCarthy Leads Action Comedy ‘Spy’
Melissa McCarthy stars as deskbound CIA analyst Susan Cooper in the big screen action comedy Spy, from 20th Century Fox. Although Cooper is responsible for some of the agency’s most dangerous missions, her office job is unglamorous, and she is deprived of the recognition she deserves for her hard work and valuable contributions. After her partner falls off the grid and another high-level agent is compromised, Cooper’s life takes an eventful turn when she volunteers to go undercover to gain access to a menacing arms dealer.
This mission is not just a chance for her to prove she can be as effective in the field as she is behind a desk; it is also an opportunity to prevent global crisis. But there are sure to be lots of comical misadventures along the way.
In addition to McCarthy, the cast includes: Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes franchise); Bobby Cannavale (Chef); Allison Janney (Mom); and Jason Statham. McCarthy’s Bridesmaids co-star Rose Byrne is also featured, along with rapper-turned-actor 50 Cent and Morena Baccarin of TV’s The Mentalist.
The movie was written and directed by Paul Feig, who previously directed McCarthy in Bridesmaids and more recently The Heat.
Spy will head into theaters nationwide May 22, 2015.
