EA Sports Reveals ‘NHL 14’ Cover Athlete
Electronic Arts recently unveiled Martin Brodeur as the cover athlete for NHL 14. The New Jersey Devils goalie edged out Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky in the final round of fan voting, which lasted from April 22 to June 2. This marks the first time a netminder has graced the franchise’s cover since 1997, when John Vanbiesbrouck made an appearance.
“I’m really excited to get voted on the NHL 14 cover,” said Brodeur. “I think it’s a great honor for me and for my family to represent not just myself but the New Jersey Devils on the cover of the EA Sports NHL game.
“I think when you get on a cover, you feel appreciated by the fans, because they’re the ones who are voting, and that means a lot to me, definitely, at this stage of my career,” Brodeur continued. “Especially competing with some younger players, sometimes, you know, with video games, it could have been tough for an older guy like me to get it done, so I’m definitely excited I was able to get it done.”
Brodeur, 41, has been in the NHL for more than 20 seasons. He currently holds the record for most regular-season wins and shutouts, most playoff shutouts and most career saves. He also has two Olympic Gold medals, three Stanley Cups, four Vezina trophies and five William M. Jennings awards.
NHL 14 will hit shelves on Sept. 10 for PS3 and Xbox 360.
