The big screen crime thriller The Secret in Their Eyes features an impressive cast that includes established stars like Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts as well as exciting new talent such as Chiwetel Ejiofor (Twelve Years a Slave). Kidman is replacing Gwyneth Paltrow, who was previously cast as Claire, a district attorney supervisor. Roberts’ character, an FBI investigator, was reportedly rewritten especially for her.
This project is a remake of an original Argentine movie that won an Oscar for best foreign-language film in 2010. Based on the novel by Eduardo Sacheri, the story follows retired Los Angeles assistant D.A. Ray Kasten (Ejiofor), who can’t let go of an unsolved murder case after more than a decade. When he returns to L.A. on a joint task force with the FBI, it looks like he might finally get some closure as he starts to make progress in the investigation, but a shocking discovery reveals a terrifying new aspect to the case.
Writing and directing the new English language version is Hunger Games screenwriter Billy Ray.
The cast also features Michael Kelly (House of Cards) and Dean Norris (Breaking Bad; Under the Dome).
The Secret in Their Eyes will hit theaters Oct. 23.
