Puma v1.10 SL
Soccer players always hope to be a half step quicker than their opponents. One way to accomplish this is with a cleat that has a kick—such as the Puma’s v1.10 SL, a lightweight boot that holds up to the wear and tear of a 90-minute match.
Weighing an astonishing 5.3 ounces, the v1.10 SL is as feathery as it gets. Puma stripped excess ounces from previous versions to create their lightest boot to date. The upper is made of an ultra-thin premium microfiber, which feels like a second skin, and the cleat’s design mimics the shape of the foot.
The outsole of the v1.10 SL is a single piece of pebax (nylon-based plastic) with a carbon fiber inset that minimizes weight without sacrificing stability. The bottom sole, with 12 bladed studs, is designed for smooth ground penetration upon striking the ball. The size and placement of the studs are important, as they are configured for maximum traction and maneuverability.
The world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, has jumped on the bandwagon. Puma designed a special edition—v1.10 SL Lightning—with a colorway inspired by Bolt’s home country of Jamaica.
Inter Milan star striker Samuel Eto’o has worn the boot during competition for the past few weeks. “If he wears this boot, he’s going to be the fastest on the field,” Bolt says. “He won’t be as fast as me, but he will definitely be fast.”
To order a pair of these lightweight speedsters, head to soccer.com. Keep in mind that the boots run small; we recommend ordering one size larger than normal. But first, watch this video for Bolt’s and Eto’o’s thoughts on the Puma v1.10 SL Lightning soccer boot.
