Quicksilver to Appear in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’
Looks like Quicksilver will be pulling double duty. In addition to the mutant’s appearance in The Avengers 2, Bryan Singer has revealed that the offspring of Magneto will also show up in the forthcoming X-Men sequel.
“Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver,” tweeted the director.
It is uncertain what effect Singer will have on Joss Whedon’s Marvel Universe. Could this be Fox Studios’ attempt to get their version of the superhuman out before Marvel gets a chance? Even better, could this be hinting at a possible crossover between Fox and Marvel? It’s unlikely. In recent weeks, rumors have suggested Whedon will completely remake Quicksilver for The Avengers 2, with a new origin and lineage—separate from Magneto. Odds are Singer wouldn’t opt to go that route for his adaptation.
So far, there’s been no mention of bringing Quicksilver’s sister, Scarlet Witch, along for the ride—although she might find her way into the Avengers sequel. But at the rate Singer has been adding mutants to the cast, we’d be surprised if anyone was left behind. Wolverine, Storm, Professor X, Magneto, Kitty Pryde, Bishop, Warpath, Mystique, Colossus, Blink, Rogue and Iceman are just some of the revealed superhumans to date.
It’s clear that the upcoming movie is more than just a sequel but not quite a full-on reboot. “It’s not just another X-Men film; it’s not just about the combined cast, as there will be certain technologies and other stuff that we haven’t seen before in the X-Men films,” promised Singer during an interview with SFX. “We also wanted to play with the notion of different times and stuff, like the way that time affects destinies. It enables the film to not just be a sequel to First Class or X-Men 3 but to actually be its own thing.”
Days of Future Past will premiere on July 18, 2014. The Avengers 2 is expected to hit theaters May 1, 2015.
