X-Men’s Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch To Appear in ‘Avengers 2’?
Recent reports suggest that a few X-Men mutants will find their way into the Avengers sequel. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, the son and daughter of Magneto, are slated to make an appearance in the forthcoming superhero extravaganza.
Joss Whedon, director of The Avengers, first hinted at the possibility of introducing the mutant duo during an interview with Yahoo! Movies. “I’ve got these two characters, two of my favorite characters from the comic book, a brother-sister act. They’re in the movie. That’s exciting,” said Whedon.
Fans quickly started speculating about who the duo could be, before Entertainment Weekly confirmed through a source that it would be Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. And though Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios President, won’t confirm the duo’s inclusion, he did stop short of denying their presence in the film. “I’m not confirming or denying,” said the exec to EW. “The draft could change six months from now.”
Is it even possible that a character from X-Men, a Fox property, could end up in Disney’s Avengers? According to Feige, the two are a part of the Avengers team in the comic books, so there’s nothing stopping Marvel from putting the duo in the film.
Of course, it’s still unclear what version of the duo we might see. ScreenRant points out the two may not necessarily be identified as mutants in the film. They could be agents working with Nick Fury, or just another set of “superhumans.” Either way, the possibilities are exciting.
Could this be the start of something bigger? Will we start seeing more cross-over in the worlds? Could we one day get to a place where Iron Man and Wolverine share screen time? How about comedian Patton Oswalt’s hilarious Star Wars-Avengers-X-Men scenario?
