REPORT: Steph Curry to be Named MVP for Second Straight Year
Later this week, Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry will be named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.
Curry is currently sidelined with a sprained knee he suffered in the first round of the playoffs, in which the Warriors defeated the Houston Rockets 4-1. He has missed his team’s last four playoff games, but he is continuing to make progress. Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Curry played 2-on-2 in practice on Saturday, before the Warriors lost Game 3 of their second-round series to the Portland Trail Blazers. The Warriors still lead 2-1, with Game 4 scheduled for tonight in Portland.
Curry undoubtedly had an MVP year during the regular season. He led the league with 30.1 points per game on 50.4-percent shooting and 45.4 percent from beyond the 3-point line. He is the first player in NBA history to average 3o points per game in less than 35 minutes for an entire season. His extraordinary performance was the most significant factor in the Warrior’s record-breaking 73-9 season.
The Warriors’ sharpshooter will be the first player since LeBron James to win back-to-back MVPs, and the 11th player to do so in NBA history.
With Curry’s surge to superstardom coming during the height of the NBA’s 3-point era, he could win even more MVP awards in the coming years.
