Robert Pattinson has signed on to star in the neo-grindhouse caper Good Time, about a bank robber running from the law and struggling to escape the dragnet closing in on him.

The screenplay was written by Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, who recently gained praise from critics for their indie film currently in theaters titled Heaven Knows What, about a young heroin addict who finds love on the streets of New York.

Safdie will also be directing Good Time along with his brother Benny. The sibling filmmakers have teamed up on a number of other films, including their debut feature The Pleasure of Being Robbed and the documentary Lenny Cook, which aired on Showtime last year.

The Safdie brothers broke news of the upcoming movie on their joint Twitter account, writing, "Excited to announce a project we've been working on and very excited to make with the untamable Robert Pattinson."

Since wrapping the Twilight Saga in 2012, Pattinson has focused on artistic projects like Maps to the Stars and Queen of the Desert rather than big, commercially viable pictures. One exception is the high-profile adventure flick The Lost City of Z, starring Charlie Hunnam and Sienna Miller, which has both intellectual and mainstream appeal.

No word yet on a release date for Good Time, but Pattinson will be seen later this year in the biopic Life, about a photographer for Life Magazine assigned to take pictures of 1950s pop culture icon James Dean.
