Gaming Update: ‘Shadow of Mordor,’ ‘Advanced Warfare,’ ‘Far Cry 4’
Free ‘Shadow of Mordor’ DLC Coming Soon
Warner Bros. has announced a free Shadow of Mordor DLC for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. The “Power of Defiance” pack will allow players to exercise their warrior skills and gain a new character skin. It also introduces Lady Marwen’s daughter Lithariel as a playable character and a new Test of Defiance Challenge mode, which removes Wraith powers during fights with Sauron’s Warchiefs.
Bungie will release paid-DLC before the end of the year. “Lord of the Hunt,” included in the $25 Season Pass, finds Sauron getting involved in the battle as he dispatches Beastmaster Warchiefs to kill off all the monsters of Mordor, while Talion goes on a quest of his own to turn these beasts against the Warchiefs.
Sledgehammer Releases Patch for ‘Advanced Warfare’
Sledgehammer has released an update for the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. The patch focuses on a number of multiplayer glitches. Check out the full list here.
“We’re taking your feedback seriously, and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is getting better because of it,” said the developer in a blog post. “Thanks for being vocal about exploits and cheaters, and making this a better experience for everyone playing. Please be sure to let us know if you have any issues with today’s improvements.”
In other news, Activision recently revealed that the latest CoD title has surpassed other games, films, music, and books to become the “biggest entertainment launch” of the year. The Call of Duty series has now pulled in more than $10 billion worldwide, according to the publisher, making it more profitable than huge film franchises like Iron Man, Transformers and Avengers.
Patches Released for ‘Far Cry 4’; Alternative Ending Revealed
Patches have been released for PlayStation 3 and 4 (1.02), and PC (1.04) to address a few Far Cry 4 bugs. The PS update provides a “smoother experience.” It should prevent users from getting stuck on the menu screen after setting up a co-op session, and address progression page issues in Story missions. The PC patch tackles the black screens that arise when a player connects certain USB peripherals and the gray screen that has popped up for some following the Outpost Master Mission.
In other news, creative director Alex Hutchinson recently revealed on Twitter that there is an alternative ending to the title, which can be triggered by a player’s decision toward the end, and a “few mini moments in the middle,” described as “dead end’ branches basically. You can do it and the result is unique, but it doesn’t affect the end. We did it for fun, and to squeeze more possible player expression out of the missions.”
