Chicago Blackhawks wonder boy and Stanley Cup Finals hero Patrick Kane has joined a new team this summer: Team Edward.
That's right. This off-season, the 21-year-old scoring sensation is hitting the books in the name of summer reading. His pick? Breaking Dawn, the fourth volume of the incredibly popular Twilight series.
Kane's mom, Donna, busted him in his bedroom at the family's suburban Buffalo home (the 'Hawks star winger lives with his parents and three sisters in the off-season). He was curled up with the 765-page fiction thriller by Stephenie Meyer. "She walked in a couple of times with me reading the book," Kane says. "I tried to hide it, but it wasn't happening."
Kane came clean about following the Twilight movies, but he decided to grab the hard copy version this time around to help keep his mind sharp during the summer.
Donna Kane says, "When Patrick was a rookie at training camp the first year, they had him rooming with [veteran] Kevyn Adams. Patrick walked into the hotel room and Kevyn was reading a book and Patrick said, 'Why would you want to read when you don't have to?' Kevyn said, 'Pat, it's good for you, it teaches you, especially if you enjoy what you're reading.'"
Take a page out of Kane's book by picking one up and reading it during your downtime. It's a novel way to stay mentally focused and get your mind right for the upcoming school year.
