‘Taken 3’ Will Find Liam Neeson on the Defensive
In the 2008 sleeper hit Taken and its 2012 sequel, Liam Neeson and his “very particular set of skills” have gone on the offensive, seeking revenge against bad guys who made the mistake of kidnapping his wife and daughter. But in the upcoming third installment in the series, Neeson’s character, Bryan Mills, will find himself on the run and on the defensive after the government he once served turns against him.
“I have to go on the run, I’ll put it that way, from the not-so-lawful types and the lawful authorities,” said Neeson during an interview with USAToday. “Bryan Mills served his country faithfully, but now even they are after him. They must not like me.”
Also, this time Mills won’t have to travel halfway across the world to get into trouble. “No more traveling,” Neeson said. “If my daughter was taken again on a trip, Bryan Mills would have to be certifiably locked up for bad parenting.”
Mills’ daughter Kim, portrayed by Maggie Grace, and wife Lenore (Famke Janssen) will return in the action film, and will be joined by series newcomer Forest Whitaker, who plays an agent in pursuit of Bryan.
If Neeson has his way, the series may end after the forthcoming movie. “It’s a rollicking good story. But I think this is the end,” said the 62-year-old actor. Of course that doesn’t mean he’s done with action films. He recently starred in A Walk Among the Tombstones and told Channel 5, “Hollywood still sends me these action scripts. I’ve got a couple planned for next year. As long as I keep fit and eat the right food and sleep the right amount of hours, I’ll be OK.”
Taken 3, officially stylized as Tak3n, will be released on Jan. 9, 2015. Check out the trailer below.
