2 New ‘The Witcher 3’ Expansions Announced
CD Projekt Red has announced two new expansions for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The two add-ons will add about 30 hours of gameplay to the RPG title, which reportedly features 200 hours on its own, and both will feature new gear and new enemies.
In the past, the developer had been critical of paid DLC, understanding that some gamers are wary of purchasing additional content for a game that has not even come out yet. Co-founder Marcin Iwinski said in a statement, “We remember the time when add-on discs truly expanded games by delivering meaningful content. As gamers, we’d like to bring that back. We’ve said in the past that if we ever decide to release paid content, it will be vast in size and represent real value for the money. Both our expansions offer more hours of gameplay than quite a few standalone games out there.”
Iwinski even suggests gamers should take their time before purchasing the add-ons. “While we’re offering the Expansion Pass now, we want to make one thing clear: don’t buy it if you have any doubts. Wait for reviews or play The Witcher and see if you like it first. As always, it’s your call.”
“Hearts of Stone,” to be released in October, will follow Geralt’s adventure through No Man’s Land and Oxenfurt as he attempts to complete a contract from the shadowy Man of Glass that requires wit, cunning and strength. “Blood and Wine,” for release in early 2016, will bring the “all-new in-game region of Toussaint.” In this 20-hour-plus add-on, Geralt will find himself in a seemingly carefree land untouched by war that’s hiding a dark, ancient secret.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available for pre-order now and will be released May 19 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The add-ons can be purchased separately ($9.99 for “Hearts of Stone” and $19.99 for “Blood and Wine”); together via the $24.99 Expansion Pass; or bundled with the game for $79.99 on PC and $84.99 for XBO and PS4. Even if you don’t purchase the add-ons, purchasing the game will net players 16 free pieces of DLC.
