Set four decades after the events of The Woman in Black, the upcoming sequel continues the horrifying story based on Susan Hill's novel.
The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death takes place during the blitz of London during World War II. Eel Marsh House is seized by the government and turned into a home for children evacuated to the supposedly safe and peaceful English countryside. Caring for the children is their young and beautiful schoolteacher, Eve.
When Eve notices the children behaving strangely, she and the local military commander, Harry Burnstow, investigate. Discovering that the new guests have awakened the evil spirit that dwells within the walls of the creepy old structure, Eve must bravely protect the innocent lives that have been put in her charge.
Starring as Eve is Phoebe Fox (The Hollow Crown). In the role of Harry is Jeremy Irvine (The Railway Man). The cast also features Helen McCrory of the Harry Potter franchise and more recently Skyfall. Interestingly, Adrian Rawlins, who played Arthur Kidd in the 1989 production of The Woman in Black, is returning for this sequel to the 2012 remake, playing Dr. Rhodes. In the title role is actress Leanne Best of the TV series Ripper Street.
The film is directed by Tom Harper, best known for his work on British television, such as the crime series Peaky Blinders. The screenplay was written by Jon Croker, who was a story editor on the first movie.
The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death will materialize in theaters Jan. 2, 2015.
