‘Thor 3’ Will Have More Comedy Than ‘The Dark World’
Taika Waititi recently revealed plans to infuse the action-heavy Thor franchise with some humor.
Talking with CNET, the director, known for the 2014 mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows and this year’s Sundance favorite Hunt for the Wilderpeople, promised to stick to his strength for the follow-up to The Dark World.
“My strength in this is bringing my style of humor, which is probably a very different style of humor,” he said. “They’ve had good jokes in them before, but I think where I come from is maybe a fresher style. It could just shake the entire thing up a bit.”
During an interview with TheWrap, Waititi joked about how he would introduce the humor. “I’ll take the second film and just add some jokes to that,” he teased.
Chris Hemsworth is returning to reprise his role as the title character, and for the first time in the franchise, he will be joined by another Avenger—the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). Talking about the direction of the movie based on early conversations, Ruffalo told Empire, “There’s a little bit of Midnight Run with [Charles] Grodin and [Robert] De Niro. I feel like that’s kind of where we’re heading with this relationship between Thor and Banner … It is a universal road movie—that’s where we’re heading.”
Fan-favorite bad guy Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, will also appear in the film, along with newcomer and rumored villain Cate Blanchett. Thor: Ragnarok will hit theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
