Treating Athlete’s Foot With Garlic
Athlete’s Foot is a fungal infection contracted when a bare foot makes contact with a moist environment, such as a gym locker room. The result: an infection that causes tiny cracks between your toes and can also result in flaking and a severe burning pain.
Fortunately, Athlete’s Foot is preventable; and if you contract it, it’s also treatable. Foot lotions and powders are one way to fight off the fungus. But the newyorktimes.com recently reported another remedy: garlic, which has been “widely used throughout history for its antimicrobial properties.” Reason being, garlic contains a compound called ajoene, which research suggests is especially effective for treating Athlete’s Foot fungus.
Creams with ajoene are not yet available, but home remedies that use garlic can treat Athlete’s Foot, as noted on newyorktimes.com:
- Soak the foot for 30 minutes in a bath with a few finely-crushed garlic cloves, or
- Mix a few minced garlic cloves with olive oil and rub the solution on the affected area with a cotton ball
