WATCH: Cam Newton Reveals the Reason Why He Didn’t Dive On His Fumble
Despite being mauled by the Denver Broncos for much of Super Bowl 50, the Carolina Panthers were down only six points with four minutes left in the fourth quarter. On 3rd and 9, Cam Newton took the snap and dropped back, looking for an open receiver downfield. And he cocked his arm back to throw, Von Miller came flying in from his right, got a hand on the football and knocked it out of Newton’s grasp. The ball fell to the ground, but instead of diving on top of it, Newton appeared to back away. T.J. Ward recovered, the Broncos scored a few plays later and the rest is history.
Newton caught some flack for not giving up his body to dive on the ball. He addressed the criticism this morning at Panthers headquarters.
“The way my leg was, it could have been contorted in a way. But we didn’t lose that game because of that fumble, I’ll tell you that.”
You can watch his entire presser above, where Newton discusses the game and walking out of his post-game interview.
