The offbeat horror-comedy What We Do in the Shadows follows the adventures of four vampire housemates struggling to get by in a modern world that is not always vampire-friendly. Ranging in age from 183 to 8,000, the guys are part of a mockumentary, in which their daily lives are chronicled, from trying to keep up with the latest technology and fashion trends, to feuding with local werewolves and cruising for girls.
Writing, directing and starring in the movie are Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, who are known for creating the HBO series Flight of the Conchords. The cast also features Cori Gonzalez-Macuer (A Night at the Classic), Ben Fransham (30 Days of Night), Ian Harcourt (Power Rangers Megaforce), and Rhys Darby (TV series Hot in Cleveland and How I Met Your Mother).
Despite the gruesome lifestyle of these bloodsuckers, the premise is humorous. In addition to horror and Gothic romance, comedy is another genre in which vampires have always been popular, and the idea of modern vamps being viewed in a reality show format offers an intriguing new twist.
What We Do in the Shadows will arrive in theaters on Feb. 13.
