The Minnesota Wild recently held their prospect and rookie development camp, hosting 37 NHL hopefuls. These camps focus on honing skills and identifying players who are ready for the pros. This year, however, in addition to time on the ice, the Wild added a unique off-ice training session—they brought the players to a cooking class.

This new approach emphasizes the importance of nutrition for success on the ice. The Wild want to teach their players to cook well-rounded, nutritious meals so they can avoid the temptations of unhealthy microwave, fast food or takeout dinners. The cooking lesson helps young players transition to living on their own and provides dietary information they need for peak performance.

Meeting your nutritional requirements powers your muscles, keeps your mind alert and helps prevent injury. By cooking your own meals, you control how much protein, fat and carbs you consume. This will fortify the performance gains you make in the gym and allow you to execute your skills during games to your full potential.

Instead of waiting for dinner to be served, help cook a meal with a parent or friend. This lifelong skill will give your body the delicious, nutritious nourishment it needs and deserves.
