Why Texas Is the Best Football State

August 16, 2012

TexasHigh school football is a religion in Texas, as most notably portrayed in the book/movie/television series Friday Night Lights and the fictional movie Varsity Blues.

The Lone Star State has produced former blue-chip recruits and current NFL stars such as Matthew Stafford (Highland Park H.S., ’06), Dez Bryant (Lufkin H.S., ’07), and the first overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft, Andrew Luck (Stratford H.S., ’08). The 2012 Gatorade Athlete of the Year Award was won by Aledo H.S. running back and University of Texas commit Johnathan Gray.

The big question: Is Texas the best football state? The infographic below presents a compelling case for the supremacy of Texas in high school football. You can also see how Texas stacks up against Ohio, the dominant football state of the Midwest (view the Ohio Football Infographic).
