Derrick Rose Thinks the Knicks Are One of the NBA’s Super Teams
New York Knicks guard Derrick Rose wants everyone to know how tough his team will be next season.
In an interview with NBA.com’s Lang Whitaker, Rose said the Knicks and the Golden State Warriors are the super teams of the NBA. Rose was traded to the Knicks from the Chicago Bulls this off-season. Last season, he averaged 16.4 points per game on 42.7 percent shooting.

“I mean, with these teams right now, they’re saying us and Golden State are the super teams, and they’re not trying to build that many super teams, and Adam Silver came out with the statement and this and that,” Rose said.
Huh? To our knowledge, no one else has mentioned the Knicks as a potential title contender. Kevin Durant joining the Warriors arguably convinced NBA fans and the media that the NBA would be led by two teams next season, Golden State in the West and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the East.

Rose’s comments were surprising, but they shouldn’t be taken at face value. He was most likely trying to say that the Knicks will be better than most people expect.
Rose talked about how hungry the team is to prove themselves, with himself, center Joakim Noah and guard Brandon Jennings striving to revitalize their careers.
The odds are stacked against the Knicks in the Eastern Conference, but they could still be competitive. Last season, Carmelo Anthony averaged 21.8 points per game on 43.4 percent shooting. These were lower numbers than his previous seasons, but Melo should get more open looks with Rose on the team. Rose has averaged 6.2 assists per game during his career.
Anthony and Noah were practicing together earlier this month, which shows the Knicks don’t have low expectations for themselves.
[youtube video=”YA-rku7QWyY”/]The Knicks have potential. With a core of Rose, Anthony, Noah and young center Kristaps Porzingis, they won’t be a super team—but they won’t be a lottery team, either.
