Train Like Landon Donovan and the U.S. National Team With EA Sports
The U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team recently teamed up with EA Sports to create a video training series designed to help pitch players bring their games up to world-class status.
“EA Sports Interactive Training provides players from age eight to 18 with technical instructions to improve essential soccer skills such as passing, shooting and dribbling,” says U.S. star forward Landon Donovan.
All drills are provided by U.S. National Team coaches and illustrated with EA Sports’ soccer simulation technology. In the video series, U.S. Soccer National Team staff Manni Klar and Greg Vanney offer several skill-specific drills for athletes to incorporate into their training routines. Each video shows how to perform the exercise properly, while the coaches discuss how the drill relates to gameplay.
“Training regularly will help you develop your skills and make you a better player,” Donovan says.
Besides performing drills, Donovan and the Yanks also train speed, agility and strength with head fitness coach Pierre Barrieu. Donovan credits Barrieu for the team’s success. “We were successful at the World Cup for many reasons,” he stated in a past interview with STACK, “but I believe the main reason is because we were physically fitter than almost every team in the tournament.”
